Fr. David Houk
Fr. David grew up in western Michigan. He graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois and received his M.Div from Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania. Fr. David was called to be the rector of St. John’s in 2006. He is fond of leading trips to the Holy Land, along with leading the liturgy, preaching, cooking, reading, working the New York Times crossword puzzle, and practicing Arabic.
Fr. Herb DeWees
Assoc. Priest for Pastoral Care
A cradle Episcopalian and third generation Dallasite, Fr. Herb answered the call to ordination after many years of rewarding lay ministry in the Diocese of Dallas. He is a graduate of Austin College and received his M.Div. from Trinity School for Ministry.
Fr. Oliver Butler
Fr. Oliver is a Texas native. He graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. in Philosophy, earned his M.Div at Virginia Theological Seminary, and works as a realtor in East Dallas. An evangelist at heart, Fr. Oliver serves part time at St. John’s and can otherwise be found around White Rock Lake on his bike or playing various guitars next to the smoker in his backyard.
Laura Warner Gilmer
Laura has been a very active member for more than 20 years at Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Dallas, where she serves as a Vestry Member, Stephen Ministry Leader, Lay Eucharistic Minister, Lector and Minister of Ceremonies and formerly served as Executive Director at Cathedral Gardens Senior Living, a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Dallas.
Strengthened by the support of three grown daughters, three wonderful sons-in-law and the best grandchildren in the whole world, Laura is delighted to be the newest member of the St. John’s family.
Benjamin is from Texas and holds degrees in organ performance, sacred music, and theology from SMU. He has performed as an organist throughout the US and Europe and serves as organist at Perkins Chapel, SMU. As a choir director, he has inspired children and adults in developing their vocal abilities, to their joy and to the glory of God in worship. He has published music through Concordia press and many articles relative to theology, music, and history.
Liz and her family have been attending St. John’s Episcopal Church since 2001. Their daughter, Walker, graduated from St. John’s Episcopal School in 2016. Liz is a graphic designer and art director in Dallas. She started volunteering at St. John’s by helping design the church newsletters.
