Contemplative Bible Study: Engaging Scripture
We can do more than just mine the Bible for information. We can engage the Bible. And as we engage the Bible, the Bible engages us. It opens our lives to possibilities beyond the purely factual and scientific. As we experience the Bible, we are not only informed, but transformed.
For six weeks this summer, we will follow a small-group, contemplative approach to Bible study. This Bible study method was introduced by an African delegation to the Lambeth Conference, a decennial gathering of the bishops of the Anglican Communion. This method is therefore also know as the “African Bible Study” or the “Lambeth Bible study.”
The contemplative approach involves listening attentively as Scripture is read allowed to the group, after which each person responds to three questions about a word or phrase they found significant or meaningful in the reading. The study is completed by reflecting upon how the passage speaks to one’s life and how one will change in response to the reading. The exercise is furthermore framed in prayer and gives everyone in the group an opportunity to share.
This class is for adults as well as junior and senior high school students. No homework is involved, but do bring your Bible with you!
Kids in the 'Croft
Young people ages five through sixth grade will encounter the Bible in a new setting! Each week will feature a Bible story, memory verse, and activities. Your child will learn more about Scripture through crafts, games, singing, and play, discovering how to God’s word his or her life today. Join us!

The Fairie Queen by Edmund Spenser
Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall Library.
Beverly Brock will lead a reading and discussion group of Edmund Spenser's Elizabethan epic poem The Faerie Queen, books I and II. Each age has produced a significant Christian allegory. Like Pilgrim's Progress during the puritan age and Hind's Feet on High Places for the recent decades, Spencer crafts a detailed description of the Christian experience. Our group will explore his use of types and symbols and what they reveal about Christians, the Church and our mission on earth. Beverly’s group will meet from 7:00-8:30 on Thursday evenings in June in the Parish Hall Library.
