The mission of John the Baptist was to make a highway in the wilderness for God's Messiah to enter Jerusalem. This road was foretold in Isaiah, and the way it was built was surprising to all who encountered the peculiar prophet in the wilderness: it was built in the hearts of men through the work of repentance. And this is still the way that the Kingdom of God is breaking into the world today.
