Christian Education for Children at St. John’s
From September through May, Sunday School begins with our all-ages Gathering Time in the Parish Hall at 9:00 a.m.: music, prayer, breakfast fare, and an intergenerational lesson. At 9:15, kids go to the Undercroft (church basement) for their classes.
Godly Play is an approach to Christian formation that enables children to experience the presence of a loving God and discover how to speak the language of their biblical faith. The goal is to teach children the art of using religious language; parable, sacred story, silence, and liturgical action to help them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence around them and in their lives.
Three-year-olds through Kindergarten meet in the Undercroft Blue Room.
Our Lower Elementary (1st and 2nd grades) and Upper Elementary (3rd through 5th grades) use the David C. Cook Bible-in-Life curiculum. Expanding on students’ foundation of faith gained in childhood, this class builds up their knowledge of Scripture and offers real-life application for how kids can live out their Christian faith in the world. No matter where students are in their walk with Jesus, Bible-in-Life communicates the gospel with life-changing clarity and motivates them toward a transformed heart and mind.
1st and 2nd grades meet in the Undercroft Purple Room.
3rd through 5th grades meet in the Green Room.
Junior and High School (for youth NOT seeking Confirmation) meets in the Youth Room.
Confirmation Class for Youth
Fr. Thorpe leads this class for 6th through 12th grade youth interested in receiving the sacrament of Confirmation. The class requires a year-long commitment and focuses on learning more about our faith as expressed in the Anglican tradition. Please contact Jeanne Webber for more information.
